Charleston Gospel Choir

The Charleston Gospel Choir celebrates twenty-five years of excellence as one of the most prominent contemporary gospel ensembles in the southeastern United States. Its repertoire spans spirituals, hymns, and sacred music, featured in its traditional annual concerts — including the Charleston Gospel Christmas and the Palm Saturday weekend performance — as well as numerous appearances at festivals and international events in cities such as Paris, London, Rome, Prague, and Accra (Ghana).

Founded in 2000 under the direction of Lee Pringle, former board member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the choir was created with the purpose of paying tribute to the pioneers of the genre while exploring new forms of expression. Its productions combine audiovisual and narrative elements that preserve the authenticity of gospel music and highlight this African American tradition as one of the fundamental pillars of popular music worldwide.

Composed of volunteer voices from diverse backgrounds and faith communities, the Charleston Gospel Choir has been described by critics as “history in the making in Charleston.” With a vibrant sound full of energy and emotion, its performances convey a universal message of faith, hope, and fellowship. Each concert transcends the purely musical — a celebration of the human spirit and the transformative power of gospel music.
