The Canary Islands Gospel School (EGC), founded in 2017 by the musician Ezequiel Barrios, began its journey on the island of Lanzarote. Shortly after, it was decided to start a second group on the island of Tenerife and, the following year, the group was created on the island of La Palma.
In this way, in 2018, the EGC managed to establish itself on three islands. Finally, in 2020, a choir of the School was also created on the island of Gran Canaria.
Each choir on each island works according to its own idiosyncrasy, its rhythm and adapting to the local culture. However, all the EGC choirs are united around the same teaching methodology, the same repertoire and, in general, the same way of doing things. Thanks to all this, the island limitation is not a problem for singing together and uniting the groups from each island in
a single choir under the name CANARIAS GOSPEL CHOIR.
Canarias Gospel Choir (CGC), under the direction of Ezequiel Barrios, arises from the union of students from all the islands in a single choir, creating a single sound. Its objective is to promote gospel music through concerts and work with society through social activities, whether concerts, workshops, outreach days or support for organizations or associations. In this year 2021, through the social project We are people (the social area of the EGC) and after a successful crowdfunding campaign, Canarias Gospel Choir has recorded its first single in the studio for social purposes. In addition, Canarias Gospel Choir participates every year in both the Canarias Gospel Summit and the Gospel Canarias Fest.
